In June 2013, president Xi Jinping visited Trinidad and Tobago, hence the relationship between the two countries has entered a stage of comprehensive improvement.
As a regional center in the Caribbean, the two countries have maintained close economic and trade exchanges. Huawei, CNPC(China National Petroleum Corporation), CRCCCL (China Railway Construction Corporation), China Electrical Construction, China State Construction Engineering Corporation, CHEC(China Harbor Engineering Company) and other enterprises have settled in Technology Export Development Organization (Tedo). On May 14, 2018, China and Trinidad &Tobago signed the agreement about “the Belt and Road”, which is the first cooperation document between China and the Caribbean countries about 'the Belt and Road'.
With the deepening of the “the Belt and Road”cooperation, Trinidad and Tobago will play a more important role in the Caribbean. The FCMC with Chinese background, relying on its unique resources, will deepen business exchanges with Caribbean countries in the economic and trade exchanges of the Belt and Road.
